More Americans report frequent distress

According to a new survey, more Americans are reporting frequent mental distress, though where they live appears to have an impact on their mental states. The survey, completed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that 10.2 percent of U.S. adults reported frequent mental distress in the period from 2003-2006, up from 9 percent in 1993-2001. Researchers found that people living in Hawaii had the lowest levels of mental distress (6.6 percent), while Kentucky residents had the highest levels (14.4 percent).
