Alcohol often a factor in suicides: CDC

New data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found that in a large sample of suicide victims whose blood alcohol level was measured after death, one in four had been legally drunk. Experts say this finding leads them to conclude that alcohol is a component of suicidal behavior, with the ability to lessen inhibitions and boost feelings of hopelessness and depression. It can also, they say, increase a person's risk of impulsive behavior and impair his or her judgment, which can contribute to suicide.
