Psychiatric drugs gaining wide acceptance: study

Results from a new study show that five out of six Americans have a positive view of psychiatric medications. Researchers found that people's opinions about these medications became more favorable from 1998 and 2006, with most people surveyed saying they believed in the drugs' ability to help people control psychiatric symptoms. But investigators reported that respondents also believed psychiatric meds could help with day-to-day stress, feelings of self-esteem, and relationships with friends and family. The researchers say that though it's a good sign people are more accepting of the drugs, many may now have unrealistic views of what the medications can and cannot treat.  Read full story >
