Americans' spending on mental health care soaring

The rate at which Americans are spending money on mental health care is rising faster than their spending on any other kind of health care, a new government report has found. The report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality found that Americans mental-health spending rose from $35 billion in 1996 to almost $58 billion in 2006. Researchers also found that during the same period, the number of Americans who sought treatment for mental health condition almost doubled, from 19 million to 36 million.
