Half of all young bipolar patients outgrow their condition

Researchers writing in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology say that half of all young people who have bipolar disorder outgrow their condition by the age of 30. Their results, based on a nation survey of 43,000 people found that young people tended to outgrow their bipolar disorder as they aged. Researchers say the study is interesting because it indicates that the maturing of the prefrontal cortex of the brain could be linked to recovery from bipolar disorder. And they also note that the results are interesting because many psychologists see bipolar disorder as a lifetime diagnosis.
