Young adults are twice as likely to consider suicide as older adults
(The Associated Press) UPDATED 2009-09-17
A new government study has found that more than 8 million Americans consider suicide every year. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) surveyed more than 46,000 adults. They found that people age 18 to 25 were almost twice as likely to have seriously considered suicide during the year than people age 26 to 49. And researchers found that people over age 50 were far less likely to consider taking their own life.
