Suicide risk high in rural areas with bars

Rural areas that have several bars have higher suicide rates than other towns, a new study suggests. But researchers say the link is not causal--meaning bars themselves do not appear to be the cause for the increased risk. Rather, researchers say it could be alcoholism in general, paired with a feeling of isolation and depression in small communities that causes the link. Or it may be that small towns that attract a lot of bars are depressing and isolating towns where there is little way for townspeople to connect.  Read full story >
