Suicide Risk Actually Dips in December

Conventional wisdom has most of us believing that suicide risks rise during the holiday season, but experts say that idea is a myth. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide rates drop slightly in December and peak in the spring. The misinformation could actually increase feelings of anxiety, experts say, and lead people to mistake the "normal" blues that come from missing lost loved ones, having financial trouble, and experiencing other stressors as depression or suicidal feelings.
