Bipolar Disorder More Common in Americans: Study

Americans are nearly twice as likely as people in other countries to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, researchers have found. In a study published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, investigators found that about 4.4 percent of Americans have had a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, compared to a global average of 2.4 percent. The scientists also found that a significant proportion of people worldwide who have the condition do not receive treatment for it, particularly in low-income nations.    Read full story >
