Black women and breast cancer

Monday, July 02, 2007 at 08:19 PMI think it is a mixture of things. I think as with many things, genes play a role. We know that AA women don't get mammograms as often or as early. We also know that AA women don't breast feed their infants as often. I know that in my 12 years as a labor and delivery RN, that was one of the areas our lactation consultants and our outreach groups were working on. Really trying to get more women and especially more AA women to breast feed. Now, if we could pinpoint which of these things played the main role we would be on top of the world wouldn't we?

Lowering Risk of Breast Cancer

Friday, November 20, 2009 at 04:57 AMIt is also significant to develop some breast cancer tests of your own, that you can do on a normal basis in between mammograms. As soon as you strike puberty, it’s an excellent idea to conduct self breast cancer tests as this begins the period where your probability of suffering breast cancer begins. Most cases of breast cancer are in women over 40, but there are a number of cases found in girls as young as early teens each year. Also, most people don’t understand that breast cancer can also occur in men! While it’s limited to about one percent of the total cases, still there is strong possibility of this fact.
