Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Finally treatment will start!

By TracieJ Sunday, December 30, 2007

I had my lumpectomy on October 12, just under a month after I was diagnosed. Since then I have had a series of problems getting the rest of my treatment going. First, I agreed to participate in a study so that added an extra week to get some tests scheduled. Then the oncologist wanted to run an oncotype test because he thought I might need chemo, not just radiation. My tumor was very small, stage 1 and 90% in situ, so up to that point I thought it would just be radiation. This test took a week for insurance approval and 2 more weeks to run. By this time it was Thanksgiving, so that added extra days. Then, it turns out that the sample was too small to run the test, which I found out after an agonizing 4 days of thinking I had to wait another 2 weeks.

So, then I get going with the tests and setup for the radiation which is then scheduled for Dec. 18. I thought great -- I'm finally going to get the rest of this out of me. But no, I get a call saying that they are having scheduling problems so could I start the 26th? Okay, at least I got through Christmas without disruption. So, the 26th we get a call saying the machine is not working, but come later. I went, got all my marks and waited for a couple of hours but no machine. Next day the same. Now I am finally supposed to start tomorrow, God willing.

Cross your fingers for me.
