Recap of the last few months

I've been away from this site for a while. Life has been a bit hectic. My cancer treatment has had some ups and downs. In March, my Taxotere chemo dosage was reduced to 75% because the side effects were getting to be too much. In April on Easter Sunday, my central line catheter (CVC) decided to swell up, turn red and become sore. My hopes of a quick trip to the ER turned out to be 3 days and nights. The CVC had become infected and needed to be...

Cycle 12 Chemotherpy Completed

Yes, this past Tuesday I had my 12 cycle of chemotherapy. I find physically I'm quite tired and mentally I'm a bit worn out as well. Generally, I'm doing quite well but find I don't have energy to do much of anything. My days are spent with the majority of the day watching television and surfing the net. Walking for any distance and standing for any length of time are out of the question.

With my most recent visit with the...

Feelin' Pretty Good

Today I woke up feelin' pretty good and I wanted to share it with the world. Often when you're undergoing cancer treatment, the good days may be few and far between, so I figure celebrate when I can.
Chemotherapy keeps me pretty tired and a bit moody. I've had a few ‘blue' days in a row but yesterday something changed. In fact, it started out pretty rough ... poor sleep and a bit agitated. My plan was to work on my college course that I'm...

Dealing with Denial

When I was first diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, I decided to start a blog about my experience. One of the main reasons was to ensure that friends and family got a true picture of my situation. With a blog, everyone gets the same information.

For me, I find it is easier to 'write' the words then to face a person and 'say' the words. For example, telling someone you have stage 4 cancer is much more difficult than writing...

Seven and Counting ...

I've had 7 cycles of Taxotere since August of this year and will continue as long as my body and my mind can take it ... I guess. I've had positive CT scans which indicate my tumours are shrinking slightly. That is all the news I need to stay on course however, it's not quite that easy.

Chemotherapy wears on the body and on the mind. My body is tired and each cycle just takes a just little bit more out of you. One flight of stairs...

Living with Cancer - History

When telling my cancer story, I have to think back eight years as that is when my cancer journey started. On one hand, I feel fortunate it has been that long but on the other hand, I do feel like it has been a trying time that has challenged my deepest soul. How does one muster up the mental and physical strength to endure cancer and its treatment? ... Surprisingly, one just does. I was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer at the age of 39. I had...
