Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Metastatic???

I havent written anything in a while on here. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last April and completed my 16th chemo treatment on Oct 15th. I had a hysterectomy on Mar17th, prior to that on Mar3rd I had a chest x-ray, it showed changes from the one that I had last May. Yesterday I saw my Oncologist for my check up. She looked at the x-ray and came back in the room to tell me it doesnt look good. She said I have fluid in my lungs and a few specks. So I'm scared to death. I get a pet scan on the 6th so I just feel so broken hearted right now. I have 3children, 9,7 and 3. All I can think about is I may not be here with them in a few years or so. I know I don't know all the details and the facts, I also know I should have hope. But all I can think of is them and how much I want to be here with them. Please keep me in your prayers.

I hope it turns out to be something other than metastasis; sometimes it does. But - there are so many good treatments for metastasized breast cancer these days. There are women living with mets for years... one of our regular shareposters, Laurie Kingston, is a mom with young children, living with metastatic breast cancer. Take deep breaths, Tiffany; try to stay positive till you know what you're dealing with. And stay in touch here - we'll hold you up if you need to go down this path again. PJH

My heart goes out to you Tiffany. I'm with PJ in hoping that it's not mets but I also want to know that many of us respond really well and live full and HEALTHY lives post mets. My bc spread to my liver. I had innumerable tumours - now there are none! I continue in treatment (I had chemo this week) but mostly life is really, really good. You can read more of my story on my blog (Not Just About Cancer) or contact me through this site if you want to talk more. xoxo

Tiffany, I'm adding my thoughts and prayers.  I know that you'll find the strength to get through this next stage of testing.  I can't tell you how many times problems that my doctor suspected might be metastasis turned out to be something else.  And as Laurie and PJ have said, more and more people whose cancer has spread live for years with a good quality of life.  We understand how scary this all is.
