Friday, December 14, 2007 at 04:55 PMPete,
Thank you so much for your input.
I am thrilled to be part of mybreastcancernetwork.com.
There is such an amazing group of voices
and opinions.
To win the war of breast cancer, we really need the allied forces to unite and fight. (And of course research needs funding.)
Take care and stay in touch,
Marisa

Great eye candy AND a compelling message-

Friday, December 14, 2007 at 04:07 PMMarisa, what a treat to read/view your blog on a cold, dark December afternoon. Both the message and the visuals cheered me up. There seems to be a growing "pink backlash" out there, with some people thinking it's uncool to show support by sporting a pink ribbon. I say, if it gets us closer to a cure, I'll wear an orange polyester pantsuit and go-go boots! What's cool is increased funding, collaborative research, and collegiality among fund-raisers. What we can do without is the competitive backstabbing to which you refer. Thanks so much for this post - and welcome! - PJHre: Great eye candy AND a compelling message-

Friday, December 14, 2007 at 05:09 PMOrange polyester, I think, is very chic.
And I always had a weakness for white go-go boots, growing up in the 60s and being a LAUGH-IN fan!
The Pink Backlash is like shooting ourselves in the foot--breast cancer gets a lot of attention because of all that pink. It's the squeaky wheel syndrome.
PJ, thank you so much for your comments.
I am thrilled to be blogging along with you.
It is an honor.
Best of health,
XO

Collaboration
MJA
Monday, December 17, 2007 at 02:41 PMGreat post and great cartoons. The research definitely needs more collaboration. I wish everyone could read the Wall Street Journal article of a few days ago, where some enterprising people who had cancer, or their kid had cancer, were combining various treatments and pushing doctors to combine them. "Cocktails" are apparently more likely to cure than single meds, but many "cocktails" are apparently not tested in clinical trials, especially if the ingredients come from several drug companies. I'm not suggesting we all make our own cocktails, I'm just saying that any news of cancer-fighters collaboration just has to be good news. -

Breast cancer cure & prevention
Mary Blocksma
Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at 05:49 PMMarisa...welcome to the website. I reviewed your wonderful book, Cancer Vixen, on this site. I loved the book (which I found by chance at our public library), your spirit, and your fabulous art. Everyone at healthcentral.com was very excited about my discovery.
After more than 100 blogs on this website, I finally found I had no more to say about breast cancer, but today I have begun breast cancer blogging again on my own site, http://beaverislandarts.com, inspired by the most important book I have ever read as a breast cancer survivor: The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell. You can find many reviews on Amazon as well as my review on Mary's Breast Cancer Blog. Dr. Campbell, an astute and highly respected researcher, has discovered strong correlations between diet and disease, especially breast cancer. I find it deeply disturbing that the powerful effects of diet are so seldom made known to us, esp. by the medical community. Please check it out for yourself, Marisa.
So many warm wishes!

It is refreshing that all of these organizations are teaming up to share information - seems like a no-brainer for any cause, but it's easy to see how other agendas (and egos) can get in the way.
Hopefully this inspires more research foundations and support orgs to team up in other health areas to make a difference. Groups only hurt the cause when they limit their collaborative efforts.
Love the illustrations! Keep up the great work!
