Due to my BRAC testing and family history of Imflammatory Breast Cancer, which by the way is not detected by a mamogram...at least until it is too far progressed, I decided along with my team of surgeons to have bilateral skin sparing mastectomies. I will have alloderm and expanders placed then in a few months i wil get my implants.
There is very little information about this surgery available and my doctors knew even less about the cancer that tried to kill my sister and is taking so many young women.. Look into learning about Imflammatory Breast Cancer.

Jen, the very best of luck to you as you go through surgery and subsequent recovery, plus the implant process. With your family history and BRCA gene issues, I think you've made a good choice.
One question (or concern) - you say not much is known about inflammatory breast cancer, or maybe you meant the bilateral skin-sparing mastectomy. Not sure where you're writing from, but I hope you're being treated at a Comprehensive Cancer Center, which are hospitals that have met the strict criteria necessary to earn this US government designation. Actually, the mastectomy surgery you describe is quite common; and while IBC is (thankfully) rare, quite a lot is known about it, and how to treat it - IF you're at the right place...
Again, best of luck to you. Come back and visit anytime - we're here for you. PJH
