Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Need help in Weschester County NY

By pec1025 Wednesday, February 04, 2009

Hello everyone.

I am a concerned partner of a woman who has just been diagnosed with cancer cells in right breast.  She also has several cyst in her left breast.

I need help from anyone that can assist us in making correct choices during this period.

The surgeon has reccommended that she have a "lumpectomy", but we really don't know what to do.  Also, because she is on NY Medicaid, we feel or choices are limited.

I would appreciate any help or advise that someone could give us.  We have cancelled the surgery that was scheduled for this past Tuesday.  The next available date will be in March.

If you can assist, and give some advise, please write me back.  We are feeling desperate.

Thank you

Sincerely

PEC1025

Hi - Not sure why you turned down the lumpectomy? This is the way most women are treated for cancer; the lumpectomy would almost surely be followed by a course of radiation. The treatment is fairly simple and, since standard, I can't imagine Medicaid wouldn't pay for it. Please reconsider the lumpectomy!! PJH
