Chemo Style and Chemo Chicks: Meet Jana Rosenblatt

By Jana Rosenblatt Wednesday, September 26, 2007

From the moment that I understood I was going to need chemotherapy and I would soon lose my hair I knew that I wanted to tattoo my head... without any pain and only temporarily. An artist friend of mine did all the research and came up with a recipe for henna, and together we designed the look I kept for the 18 months that I was in treatments.

The henna worked so well that I also used it to put on eyebrows. The lines lasted about 5-7 days and I would darken my brows with some make-up to give them added dimension. You can see here how much more alive I looked after the brows and make-up then with nothing...pretty amazing huh?

From the start it was important for me to look as well as I could. Not because I am especially vain but because my philosophy was to live through my cancer and I needed to keep up with as much of my interior design career as possible even during my chemo's.

Wigs were never going to be the solution for me because I couldn't stand how they felt. I was also concerned that they would look much better than my real hair and that people would think that I was sick after I got better!?! I created head wraps that felt chic rather than like camouflage and found some very contemporary, fun and comfortable head cover solutions.

This is one of my head wraps on my friend Kathy, also going through treatments at the time. All of my efforts to create a positive statement worked so well for me that I created ways to share them with others going through the chemo and hair loss process, check us out at: www.chemochicks.com
