DCIS, breast cancer, early detection

I am 35 years old, and I have just had my third breast surgery. It started in April with a lumpectomy when I was diagnosed with DCIS in my left breast. Then I had another surgery - a wide re-excision - two weeks later. Unfortunately, clear margins were not achieved at that time. So - I had a single mastectomy in late June and now, I am going through the reconstruction process. I've elected to have an implant instead of a TRAM or DIEP flap. Although I am still living with the after-effects of breast cancer, I am happy to say that I am officially cancer free. The mastectomy successfully removed all remaining cancer from my body, and the sentinel lymph nodes were clear. I am here to promote early detection and to spread a message of hope to women everywhere!!
