I'm retired RN, and decided to run a small retail store. In December 2006 I was diagnosed with a state II to III invasive ductal carcinoma. I chose a bilateral mastectomy, and as there were 4 positive nodes, I went through the chemo and radiation treatment suggested by my oncologist. Chemo was very tough and radiation was very weird. When I worked as a nurse, the very sound of "X-Ray" would send us running from the room, and there I was laying on a table being "beamed". I completed that portion of the treatment in August and in October I started on Arimidex. The most tiresome side effect is the depression coupled with the intolerance that is the hallmark of no estrogen in my body. Physically I have more energy than I've had in ages, I exercise most days and am trying to learn how to dance. I have an amazing loving partner, I'm adjusting to a changed body image, I feel strong and healthy but 4 more years of Arimidex is a daunting proposition. I feel changed (and improved)for the rest of my life.
