So many women (me included) are amazed at the emotional rollercoaster called breast cancer. There is a wonderful drama by Nicole Johnson called "Stepping into the Ring". She states that having breast cancer is like going to bed and waking up in the ring against the heavy weight champion of the world. You are in your pajamas and don't even know how to throw a punch. No person, man or woman, can know what is going on inside your head. What you are thinking or feeling, or what you should be thinking or feeling. This is an intensely personal battle. While breast cancer is not the most deadly cancer, I dare say it is the most emotional cancer. Add to that hormones, steroids, chemo, radiation, hormone blockers and a complete change in our landscape and heck yea, I'd say you are on a roller coaster! While this isn't very reassuring to look forward to, it is reassuring to know you aren't just going crazy! Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Sick and tired of doctors, hospitals, pills, shots and answering the same question on the phone over and over again? Well, that means you are completely normal!!! So after all this depressing information, what can I say?? I can say this....your life, many more years of your life, are worth 6 months or 12 months of hell! You may never be the same, you will be better! You will love better, forgive better, laugh better, appreciate better, take care of yourself better, be a better friend, better sister, better daughter, better partner or parent...all because of the battle you won with breast cancer. I often say, we don't see the benefit and the lesson in the middle of the trial. We see it when we are on the other side of the trial looking back at what we have conquered! So hang on, this too will be in your rearview mirror!
Keep up the good fight! Life is worth fighting for!
