For me, wigs, hats, and bandanas were too cumbersome to wear while teaching 8th grade. After about a week of constantly thinking somebody was standing next to me due to my bandanas extending into my peripheral vision, I decided to go bald to work.
The first day I was very nervous how my students would react; eighth graders don't hold any punches! I was overwhelmed by their response, very loving. I decided a bald head was boring and needed to enhance it. I dug through my daughter's dresser and found all her bows I used to stick to her little bald head. If a baby can do it, why not I?
I started wearing all types of bows to school which caused a greater reaction. After my hair started growing back, some of my boys with buzz cuts wanted to have a hair growing contest. After about three weeks, I had a nice little sprout going on. One of my students asked me, "What the heck are you putting on your hair to make it grow so
fast?" This was one contest I had in the bag!

You're right, if babies can have bows on their bald heads... I actually look back on my bald days as quite enjoyable. I loved seeing and feeling the shape of my head - maybe because I knew it was fleeting, so I'd better get the most out of it while it lasted. And then my hair grew in completely different - VERY curly, and darker. Thanks so much for sharing, and for helping me relive fond memories! PJH
