Mortality and Other Issues

I finished treatment on March 3. This month, I'm staring at my first round of post-treatment bloodwork, plus having a mole that didn't react well to radiation removed from my upper chest, plus my FIRST follow up mammogram since I was diagnosed on June 28, 2007. The fact is, I'm scared to death. I can't go through the surgery, chemo and radiation again. At least I don't believe I can.

I try to keep my...

Strange Skin Tenderness

Hello all! I have another question...do any of you or have you, experienced a strange type of skin tenderness in your surgery areas? I know nerves missfire and reconnect and there will be pain spasms. However, I've noticed that the area of complete dissection in my right armpit, passing along the underside of my right arm to my elbow, and also passing downward about half way down my side, is still numb...

Tamoxifen and menstruation

I need some information. I'm not understanding the relationship between my estrogen-positive tumor, taking Tamoxifen and my apparent periods. My doctors (oncologist and gyn) both told me that my ovaries would be basically shut down due to the chemo and then the Tamoxifen. So, I was figuring that hormones in general were a bad thing for me - no worries, I'm 49 and not interested in any more children. So, why...

Radiation nerves?

Hi Jean: I'm not a year out of radiation, not by a long-shot. I just finished last week; however, during radiation, no problems. Now? I have shooting pains in my breast and my right arm (cancer was in my right breast) hurts! My radiation oncologist said I'm fine and this is nerves firing off. This appears to be a logical explanation for me; could it be for you as well? Kaye

Tamoxifen?

Hello again: I am going to rely on you for your take on Tamoxifen. My doctor gave me my first perscription and told me to start taking it about 2-3 days after my last radiation treatment. What can any of you share with regard to side effects? I appreciate any and all input. Does it tend to affect your stomach? For example, what time of day is best to take it - night? in the morning? I thank...

Breast Reconstruction Bummer

Hello all: I'm having a down day. I've met with various plastic surgeons to secure one that I have confidence in. So far, I've met with two in Chicago and after last night, I am upset to learn that while I had a lumpectomy, after surgery and drains and now radiation, there is just too much tissue damage to be able to use my own body tissue to rebuild my breast and so they are both recommending implants. ...

Glowing in the dark?

I'm into my 3rd week of radiation treatments. My boob is getting slightly hard and is just a little swollen. The incision mark from the complete right axillary dissection is beginning to itch which is strange since my skin has completely lost sensation since the surgery. My right shoulder is getting just a bit tight and I'm doing my post-surgical exercises again to keep it limber. While it is a pain to...

A Positive Attitude Helps!

Hi, I'm Kaye and at the age of 48 and after having my yearly mammorgram last year, on July 3, I was diagnosed with Stage 2B breast cancer. The Fourth of July will never be the same holiday it once was for me. I went on a friend's sailboat to watch the fireworks over Lake Michigan and couldn't stop thinking how cheated I felt! I never smoked, got my mammograms, and now this! I didn't want to be sick from...
