Birthday diagnosis
Phyllis Johnson
Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 07:35 AMLois, we share the experience of a birthday diagnosis. Mine was ten years ago for my 50th birthday. Your story is a real lesson in learning how to advocate for yourself and later for your husband. Being assertive with office staff and finding the right doctors is such so important to being able to navigate our complicated medical system. I'm delighted that you are doing well.

Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 07:45 PMYes, the "Birthday Surprise" was not what I wanted, but I knew that there was something. I just was not really ready to face it before Christmas (when I found my lump). My husband's cancer was not so obvious. He just started feeling sick (sick to stomach sick) but it would pass in a few seconds... Then these spells got longer and longer. He thought it was a reaction from a new med he was taking. Dr. changed his med number of times, and finally told him he needed to go to GI doctor. Her name is Dr. Shireen Gadallah, and she is also a very good doctor. She told us right up front before the results came back what it was, and told us to find a good oncologist...which we already had. Thank God!
