Seeing again!

By Michigoose Sunday, September 04, 2011

I can't remember if I mentioned this here or not, but I was one of the lucky population who experienced severe blurriness of vision while receiving Abraxane (Paclitaxel protein bound with human albumen). It was bad enough that I had to give up driving .  Evenings were particularly bad, but I couldn't read signs either.

I received my last dose on July 1 (9 months after starting) and I have to say that about 2 weeks ago, I realized that my eyesight is completely back.  For a while, it didn't seem like there was any improvement, and certainly the improvement after a month was minimal--I could begin to read books, but distant vision was the pits.

I know that your results might be different, but I wanted to share this so that some of you might have SOME sort of timeline as to when you might be able to see again. For an avid reader and quilter, the inability to see combined with having to rely on people for rides to places was MOST annoying.

I have to say, this, the dry mouth and the fatigue were the side effects which bugged me the most...not being able to taste had its advantages....I only ate when I was hungry!

Lisa, that's great news! Thanks for sharing, and for giving hope to others who might be going through the same thing. You must be breathing a huge sigh of relief, eh? I'm just so pleased to hear about this... Smile PJH

Thanks...yes this is a huge relief...of all the senses, for me the lost of vision would have been the most difficult.  I know that I would have figured out ways to get around it, but I do delight being able to see, take photographs and render them into art quilts, not to mention reading and seeing my family.  This seems so minor in the grand scheme of things, but it does make the other side effects much more bearable.

What wonderful news!  You will have to start a new quilt now that you can see again.  Quite a few people do experience some vision changes during chemo although not as extreme as what you experienced.  I'm sure others will be encouraged to hear that your vision came back.
