Having cancer is an eye-opening experience, it is also somewhat personal one in that there are many choices which must be made that only we, the person in treatment, can make. What is right for one person, may not be right for another.
For instance, I chose not to have reconstruction surgery. Others have. I just couldn't face the additional surgeries. So, while my friend Kathy had reconstruction and it was the "right" choice for her, I'm still happy I didn't go through the additional hospital visits.
Recently, I responded to a sharepost about telling your children. That too is a personal choice. If you talk about it and how you do if you do is YOUR choice as the person who is battling this disease.
However, looking at all the different ways and experiences of others who have and haven't told their children is important. I chose to tell my daughter for a variety of reasons which I have discussed more fully on my breast cancer blog. She was first 15 months old when I was originally diagnosed, then 4 1/2 when I was diagnosed with a Stage IV recurrence. She's now 16.

The breast cancer network on Health central is an excellent way to ask questions and find out what others have done so that you can make an informed decision. Asking questions, of everyone whether your treatment team, your initial doctor, your friends, family, and then people who have gone throught the tunnel and out the other side.
I am grateful for this community, and the moderators who make sure that this works and works well.
