I had another biopsy yesterday, this time on a suspicious spot on my liver. I had my first breast biopsy on June 12; cancer diagnosed on June 17; PET scan on June 18; and second biopsy for margins and sentinel nodes (clear) on June 19. I have interviewed three oncologists and two radiation oncologists. That means that two-thirds of my "team" is in place. One of the radiation oncologists exudes brilliance and he's a keeper. I'm still looking for an oncologist to coordinate my care, but it seems to be falling to me. I received a phone call from the empathetic radiation oncologist today that the sub-centimeter tumor on my liver is cancer; we'll have more information when the pathologist runs the remainder of the tests. What I want to know is whether or not I am still in a curable state or whether the second tumor puts me in another category altogether. Anyone out there have some good news for me? I feel as though I'm due for some good luck here; maybe I'll buy a lottery ticket....

Sorry for the bad news about the spot on your liver... Yes, that does put you in a different level of seriousness, as it means the cancer has metastasized. HOWEVER, don't think in terms of curable/not. Only about 20% of breast cancers are considered curable (ones that haven't spread at all - the "in situ" ones). The rest of us all have non-curable cancer that we work like mad to put into permanent remission. I hope you find an oncologis tyou like/trust soon. And I'm wondering, did you go to the "top" cancer facility you were talking about You really should; why settle for less than the best? Have you checked out the Comprehensive Cancer Centers designated by the government? My belief is that's where you'd get the best care, and there are 40 of them around the country, so shouldn't be TOO far from you. I'm thinking of you as you get geared up for your treatment - stay in touch here, OK? PJH
Thank you for your support, PJ. Yes, I am going to the "top" cancer facility in my home state; my appointment is on June 21. I should have most of my records in hand at that time. I am working for complete remission; it CAN happen. Now it's up to me to MAKE it happen! Finding an oncologist is trying, but I believe I will find him/her. I appreciate your positive thoughts! I'll keep you posted.
You have a great attitude - which is important. I know you'll find an oncologist that's a good fit, and get top-notch treatment at the facility you've chosen. I hope things go well for you. And yes, please keep us posted - PJH
