Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Celebrating Renewed Hope...by walking 60 miles!

By Jolene Boyd Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have decided to walk in the Breast Cancer 3-Day this year in the Twin Cities (MN)!  This will be my third time...I walked in '05 and '06.  I decided not to awalk last year (I rationalized that it was hard for me to keep asking the same people to donate year after year...)  Ironically, if I HAD walked last year, I would have received my diagnosis on the very day that the Event started (8/24/07).  Now THAT would have been a challenging walk.  Yet I can't help but think that it would have also been hugely therapeutic...having been on the walks before, I can imagine the love and support I would have been surrounded by as I started that difficult journey.  But, that's not how it worked...

Despite this...or perhaps because of this...I have decided to walk again this year--I created a team (of TWO so far) called Renewed Hope to acknowledge my battles (lost my mom to bc in '01) and especially my TRIUMPHS!  "Cancer-free" for now!

I would be ever-grateful to anyone who might feel moved to donate to this incredible cause on my behalf...or on your behalf, or on the behalf of someone you love who has been or is going through this.  Please check out my web site to make a donation at: http://08.the3day.org/site/TR/Walk/TwinCitiesEvent?px=1820561&pg=personal&fr_id=1191

Talk to you soon!

Jolene,

This is GREAT! Good for you. THANK YOU for every step you take in the walk. Take lots of photos and be sure to write again afterwards.

Best,

Maria
