Hi, I am a 40yr old woman, I have had my fair share of mamograms (breast cancer runs on both sides of my family) I recently (9 months ago) found a lump in my right breast.

I had a mamogram and ultra sound done back a while ago and they found nothing. I recently (last week) went back and had another mamogram and again they don't see any thing there, with that said I personnally feel like they made a mistake........I was not asked to remove my deodrant or my jewerly, can the lack of removing my deodrant cause a negative result?

I have had 3 different doctors feel the lump, so it's not in my mind.

I also recently noticed that when I lay down that my nipple on the left side does invert (complete collapse inward) and there is an indent in the right breast.

I have been told that because I am on hormone pills that this can be a side affect. Could that be true?

Also, I have drainage from both breast (greenish in color) I have had this for 11+ years (it's been tested and was negative again this was done maybe 2 yrs ago). Should I push the doctors to redo the test?

I have lumps all around the areola and on some of the lumps I have new black spots that I was told could just be a skin disorder (they look like moles, but just came about in the last month or so) I was not told that this could be a skin disorder(not by a doctor but by a mamogram tech).

I was recently seen in the e.r for pain on my left side (breast) I thought I was having a heart attack. They found that I wasn't (thank god) but while I was there I pointed out the newly found black spot that look like a mole (or a scratch that was healing) I was told that with no if and or buts I was to see a breast specialist. I have made an apt with my obgyn, she too felt the lump on my right side. I had the mamogram and they found nothing wrong. I am still having a pain on my left side (breast). I have to say though everytime I go to see a doctor about this I am treated so rudley, its gotton to the point that I don't want to see any of them. The doctors and tech's have done nothing but to push me off and tell me to wait (6-9 months) I have, and the lump that is on the right side is now about the size of a quarter, I was told (9 months ago) that it was just part of my breasts. I don't know what to do. I am really scared. I am going to see a specialist on monday (new years eve)They did do an x-ray and said asked if I have a bad cough because there seem to be (I think) alot of fluid in my lungs. I have not been sick yet this year (knock on wood) and when the blood test came back, well they informed me that my count was extremly high (I do realize that is my body's way of fighting off an infection) I have had other blood test performed in the past and have always had very high prolactin levels (I have also been check for a putituary tumor) recently they did (9 months ago) another set of blood tests, my hormone levels are really messed up..... I have one level that is way to high and the other that is way to low.... I laugh and say they should cancel each other out, but my doctor (who I DON'T LIKE) said it doesn't work that way.

Dear ymterrie729,

I would encourage you to continue to be persistent in getting these symptoms diagnosed.  Most lumps are benign, but it seems to me that a lump that has been there nine months needs more investigation.  Ultrasounds, MRI's, and needle biopsies can give your doctors a better view of what's going on.

I hope tomorrow's appointment gives you some definitive answers.

Hi ymterrie729,

I, too, would urge you to continue pressing for more answers and for an MRI.  Most lumps are benign, but its important to get all of your fears and concerns ruled out.  Please keep us all posted on what happens.

Best regards,

Went to the doctor. He did a biopsy, I should have the results by the end of the week if not the begining of next week.

I asked him to take a look at the left nipple (due to the inversion) he said he doesn't feel a lump and that a lump would cause my nipple to do what it is doing.

He thinks that the lump on the right side is just a fatty lubular (I think thats correct) I did come back to him and state that the reason I am so concerned is due to the lump becomming larger, the drainage and the new inversion. He stated that a breast MRI would be to costly and since they aren't find anything on the mamogram everything should be just fine.

Do I feel any better.......................NO not at all

According to this surgeon, emergency room doctors (who is who sent me to get this mamogram done again) don't know anything about the breast and that I am reading way to much information

do I drop the issue regarding the left breast? I have to wait for the results regarding the right breast, but if this was infact a cyst, the lump would have gone away or down correct?

The lump is still there, size wise it did not change, thickness, its not as thick. I don't know what to do.

Have a great week everyone.

A biopsy is usually more accurate than an MRI for diagnosing cancer, so as far as the lump is concerned, you are on track for finding out what that is all about.  Unfortunately, when some doctors try to reassure us by telling us not to worry, they just make us worry more because we feel like they aren't taking our symptoms seriously.

This doctor was conscientious enough to do a biopsy even though he thinks the chances are strong that the lump is benign, so you can probably trust his judgment about the left side for now.  If your symptoms persist or get worse, go back and insist on more tests.

I hope you get good news from the biopsy.

The surgeon stated that I have to have a lump under the nipple area in order for the nipple to invert this lump according to the doctor, has to large in size. I have never and I will repeat never had a lump on my left side ever. The right side is the side I am concerned about, because I can feel the lump. The left side inverts................

When I lay down the nipple collapes inward. I have an appt with a Dr. Wendy Mikkleson (here in Wisconsin) she is a breast specialist (I don't like here either), put my feelings aside, it is my understanding that she is the best in her field here in Wisconsin. I have seen her in the past so she is familiar with me.

I will still try to get into seeing someone in Chicago. I am taking my husband with me to all of my apt. only because I want him to see how they are treating me. (Doctors, Nurses and Techs)

Everytime I complain about the doctors and techs I want him to here it so that it is not in my head. Yes, I have gotton to the point where I am questioning my own every single move. I don't trust any of them............NOT ONE

P.S. the doctor I saw on Monday said the MRI would cost be about $3000.00 and got very snotty and asked if I was looking to get a masoctomy (sorry about the spelling), my husband just reminded me about that litte comment ( I am telling you I HATE DOCTORS, I HATE THEM I HATE THEM..........)

Sorry I am just so frustrated...............

Everyone keeps asking me questions and I have no answers at least no straight answers. Can anyone give me a good reason why a nipple inverts? Keep in mind I am 40 yrs old and my last child was born almost 12 yrs ago...... I had a full hysterectomy 2 1/2 years ago..........so pregnancy is out of the question and I am on hormone medication. (2 estrodial, 1 new phase, 2 black coash vitamens)
