I don't typically post about fundraising opportunities. There are, indeed, plenty of meaningful ways to contribute to cancer causes, and many of you have several other ways of finding out about them.
But, I want to point out Alicia Staley's $5 Twitter Challenge for a couple reasons:
Alicia is, as her blog conveys, an Awesome Cancer Survivor. I've been lucky enough to speak with her by phone about her many accomplishments, and she's infinitely friendly, smart, and responsive.
If you've ever read Alicia's posts on Twitter (also called "tweets"), you will notice that her cheer is infectious. (She kinda reminds me of PJ!)
The Staley Foundation's goals include giving back to other patients who seek treatment at the hospital where she received care. And I personally, after having talked to cancer fundraisers and the like, think it's worth thinking about donating to your local hospital or where you received care. I won't go into the math of it, but it makes sense in a reverse locavore kind of way.
If you can explain this in a better way or disagree, please feel free to chime in in the comments section below.
I already chipped in for the $5 Twitter Challenge. Please check it out, even if you just want to see a great fundraising idea in action. (Goal is to raise $2000 in $5 donations).
