There's a good article in today's New York Times that gives context to the Edwards' decision to continue with John's presidential candidacy.
"The modern-day woman does not want pity," according to an oncologist cited in the article, Dr. Marisa Weiss. “[Women with breast cancer] hate that. Most of the time the husbands don’t cut back [on work]. The woman remains in control, she’s in charge of the household, and if anyone tries to take that away, she would feel usurped, that he feels she’s incapable, and this makes her feel less independent.”
Weiss is also the president and founder of the nonprofit breastcancer.org.
