I am happy to see the community debating the EARLY Act on this site.
Approximately 36,000 new breast cancer cases are diagnosed in US women under the age of 50 each year -- more than the total number of cervical and ovarian cancers diagnosed annually. Even still, too many young women are told not to worry about breast cancer.
The EARLY Act (http://earlyactawareness.org.) would fund a national breast health education campaign that specifically targets young women, as well as their physicians and other healthcare providers. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, herself a breast cancer survivor.
Along with many important clinical organizations and advocacy groups, supporters of the EARLY Act include the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society, as well as over 330 House Representatives and 35 Senators so far.
Breast surgeon Ernie Bodai highlights why this bill is so important, at www.sacbee.com/opinion/story/2104877.html?storylink=pd
For more information, or to register your support for the EARLY Act, you can easily send an e-mail to your US Senators through http://earlyactawareness.org.
