This happened in June 2007 .It is a rainy evening in the middle of my vacation in India it struck me that I need to make that long pending visit to a diagnostic centre for my mammography. My mother later described me as a free bird flying in sky getting the wings chopped off fell down to the bottom of a abysmal pit. The doctor at the clnic looked at me and asked who is your doctor?. I told her I have none. She said you better go to a doctor right now. From then onwards things moved very fast. With in a week I got the lump removed. The doctor told my sister my case is fast advancing metastatic ductal carcinama with 9 lymphnodes affected in 1 cm tumor so very poor prognastics he will give very little time and high relapse chances. It came as a bolt out of blue for me who is a very successful Special Ed Consultant working in USA. My family is in USA. This shattered all my family. There were some nagging doubts and dilemas on what to do? how to reallocate priorities? Came back to USA after 2 chemotherapies shifted the custody of my son(who lived all his life with me) to my husband enquired for my treatment to continue in US. No insurance company came forward. I packed back to India. I went to Bombay got my complete plan of treatment written down by Dr. Sudeep Gupta. 12 weeks of Paclitaxol and 4 cycles of FAC. 30 days of radiation. When I started every one told me that to some the hair did not fall. I wished it would happen to me. But believe me it went off nicely to some one but not to me at every step. There is nausea, vomitings, radiation burnt the breast so badly leaving the scars. But that is the time I completed my M. Phil with survey around 150 schools and joined back duties in my old school in India. Continued life asif nothing happened. After the completion of treatment in March I waited for 5 months in India and came back to USA and resumed my duties. I am still looking around for insurance. It is a wonder for me to know that I could complete a world class treatment in india for $10,000 and have no problem for doctor consultancy any time have problem getting one insurance coverage with a precondition in USA. My heart goes for all those ladies who may have got the BC but no way to pay. I took one mammogram last month which is free from fresh growth. I want to be of help to those who need to make that extra step to complete their treatment. In India we have a herb called Hennah it makes hands red. This herb helped me to overcome tingling nerve sensations in my hands and legs. Hair growth started the minute my chemotherapy is over. Castor oil helped me get back thick good hair. I used to drive away hot fluxes through a method of pranayam where I used to put my tongue like a small spoon and draw air through it into my lungs we used to call it as Seetkali Pranayam. I did Art of Living Sri Ravi Shanker's course. I sustained my treatment with the help of my brothers and sisters. My life is still going on with one tablet daily Tamoxifen. good luck to every one who need to traverse this path. The road may not be smooth. Just have patience. You will catch the thread to your life very soon.
