I am initiating a free online writing experience called WriteAway for people who have been through breast cancer.
The concept of WriteAway is based on the use of writing as a healing art. For the past five years, I have been facilitating writing workshops to support people in healing their thoughts, beliefs, and fears around issues like breast cancer. It’s an incredibly fulfilling experience for me, and I always hear from participants that it has been tremendously healing for them. You can see the results of this work at the Video Gallery on my website (http://www.leahcarey.com) - the Bosom Buddies video features HealthCentral's own incomparable PJ Hamel!
For some time now, I’ve been intrigued by the idea of bringing this work online. I’m very pleased to announce the launch of WriteAway…a place for people to WRITE AWAY their issues. And you can start RIGHT AWAY!
This is a FREE online writing experience for anyone who has been through breast cancer. I will also be facilitating a Divorce WriteAway concurrently – if you happen to be a survivor of both, you can participate in both!
At 9 AM each weekday morning for 40 days, I will post a writing prompt that offers you a vehicle for exploring your thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and experiences around surviving breast cancer. Prompts will be available through my website, Twitter, and Facebook (details below). My suggestion is that participants spend approximately 20 minutes each day on this activity. At the end of this set of 40 days, I will choose two new issues to address.
Because the questions are designed to help you dig deep and move forward in the healing process, it is important that there be a place of community support. At my website there is a WriteAway forum where you can post what you’ve written, read other people’s writing, discuss your feelings, challenges and victories, and support each other through the process of healing. Participation in the forum is not required; it is simply available as a place to share, learn, and grow.
About once a week, I will blog in response to what I am reading on the boards. My primary interest is always in maintaining and promoting an atmosphere of healing and forward movement.
The first writing prompts will be posted on Wednesday, November 18 at 9 AM. People can join the process at any time, and everyone who has completed treatment for breast cancer is welcome. If you are still in treatment, I encourage you to focus your energy on healing your physical body; when your treatment is finished, join us at WriteAway.
Of course, the more people who participate, the more effective our community can be, so pleas share this with your friends and fellow survivors!
There is more information available at my website: www.leahcarey.com/writeaway.
Prompts can be found each morning at:

Hi Readers - I've participated in several of Leah's prompted writing experiences around breast cancer over the years. They're excellent - loving, supportive, and it really does allow you to gain some valuable self-insight. I recommend this highly! PJH
