Post Rads, Pre-Career! Summer is here and wiping me out!

By Peglove Thursday, August 19, 2010

Hi All,

Just out of active treatment nearly a month and I have been resting and getting my bearings. I am not sleeping well without a sleep aid, and I am now having rapid-fire pain in the radiated booby. It doesn't hurt as much as just keep me awake with mild pain, like a splinter in my bedsheets. The heat in LA (102'F today) is making my stamina short, and I needed some help today after 4 hours of networking, walking, and talking.

Neuropathy in my feet and left hand is mild, but noticeable. It feels like tourniquets on my hands and feet. It is worse in the morning when my feet first hit the floor...then kinda goes away after a few steps. My joints have the same sensation.

But thems' small potatoes!

I am excited to say that I am taking steps towards new career ventures and possible work leads in a completely different line of work (well, not completely different).  I won't say what just yet, but I will say that I have all the confidence and heart to give it my all!

I am still taking the B-12 and L-Glutamin for the tingles, but I am contemplating taking Lyrica (for fibromyalgia) I have heard good things about it for Neuropathy. I am also having a glass of white wine with dinner and that, to me is living it up!

I have not started Tamoxifen yet. I have an appt. with my ONCO and my Surgeon next week where we will talk about that and birth control, as I am still fertile! Can you believe it....good for my body, bad for my child-free plan.

Okay, that's the scoop, and I hope you are all walking if you couldn't, running if you were walking, sprinting if you can now run, and happy if you were recently sad and hopeless. It is getting better all the time (The Beatles).

I am so happy to be here. I am so happy to be here....

Big Hugs and Big Love,

Peggie.

One foot in front of the other - and as you say, at a quicker pace. Think how much better you feel now than 6 months ago, right? There IS light at the end of that long, dark tunnel. Best of luck as you forge your new career path. And as for the tamoxifen - keep in mind it makes you even MORE fertile! Sending you continues strength as you heal- XXX PJH

Would love to hear what your onco thinks about tamoxifen!! I stopped my last 2 chemo treatments so my onco isn't very pleased, but I got a follow up MRI & my surgeon said I could have my surgery, so there you go. I still am on one drug that causes a lot of body aches that i have to take for a year every 3 weeks.

I wish you weren't in pain, does the rad onco say it will cont. to get less & less over time?

Good luck w/ your career and upcoming treatments, looks like your on the down stretch from here.   Fondly, Laura
