So the lumpectomy from Oct 29, was cancelled because they found a strange shaped growth in my breast, which they biopsied and it turned out to be nothing. Good. Whew. But still mad. And now very nervous because I already know what I am in for since my dress rehearsal on that day included an IV drip, ...

Advocate for yourself, Peg - tell them to keep that nurse out of your way or there'll be trouble. I had that same experience, with a night nurse who actually yelled at me because I told him I was allergic to iodine (there was a sign stating that directly over my bed), as he was swabbing my arm with iodine. I still remember how bad he made me feel... funny the things we latch onto.

I predict things will go smoothly this time: no lymph node involvement, lumpectomy successful with clean margins, Oncotype low, and off you go on the path to health. Hold onto that thought! Best- PJH

Thanks PJ! I needed that. yeah, I think I am just going to go down there and nicely state what a jerk she was. I can't believe that...a nurse yelled at you? Jeez.

So how do they "grade" the tumor? I thought it would be A.B.C.F....teacher talk.

Is there a number? Can I learn more about that here on the site?

Thank you so much. I am ready..again.

Peg, if you haven't read our Guide to Understanding Your Pathology Report - you might want to be ready by studying up. Look on p. 2 for info. about tumor grade - and there's just a lot of other really good information in there, written for the lay person - that would be us! PJH

I just read the Guide for the grading system oncotyping...And I saw I actually posted something on there 2 days after my diagnosis. I guess I read it then.

As I was reading it this time around, I remembered that I HAD read it, but was completely clueless to all the info in it because at that point I hadn't even seen the results of the biposy! Ha! That's me, always jumping to the end of the book!

But this time, I totally get it. now I have familiarized myself with all this "medicalese" blah blah, and I am starting to Get it!

Thank you Laura, PJ, and Phyllis.

For all your input and your warm wishes! I must admit I am pretty nervous, but with knowledge and now power!

It can be overwhelming, it really can - the language, the fear and trepidation, the sheer number of doctor's appointments... That's what we're here for, to try to make the whole experience a little more human and approachable. Glad we're succeeding! PJH

Have an oncotype, that should give you that "peace" of mind. It will also help with your decsissions for chemo vs. hormone therapy should that be available to you, and radiation. these decissions will all come post op. And like PJ always says decide and dont look back! Good Luck! Your in my prayers. Laura

just want to say that i will be thinking of you tomorrow, and hope everything goes well.

I'm sure everything will be fine and this will be a memory only very soon.

I have the DCIS very small, but am leaning towards double mastectomy.  I don't want to do radiation and taking that pill for 5 years.

Besides, just like you, I'm "young" 37, and always have a very small brest.  If I can get a nice decent size as a resoult of this cancer, at least I'm getting something out of it instead of the cancer taking from me...

See medication is working.. i have more hope today..

    Thank you Sandy!

So happy to hear from you! And I am glad that you are doing better! keep up the hope!

I am vervous, but ready for tomorrow. Remember...you can always do a small lumpectomy now, and think about the mast. later...

Whatever you choose, I hope it goes well! Any idea when you are scheduled?

    Love Peg.
