progress

By Racuh Thursday, January 21, 2010

My hair is growing back... oh dear merciful baby jebus, it's straight. The first time it grew back after chemo it was curly. I hated it. I prefer NOT having hair to having curly hair. So this time, to my sheer elation, it came back straight! I'm not entirely sure what my dear ol' hair is up to though, it's growing in fairly thick but I have these 2 spots above my temples that refuse to grow. I look like a little old man with a receding hair line. My eyelashes are growing in very squirrly and kinky. I'm waiting for that to normalize... and my eyebrows are slowly coming in too. No nose hair yet... I can't say that is a bad thing tough. I will be so happy when my hair it grows out enough for me to ditch the wigs. I'd like my head to be free!

I drew a self portrait with hair progress. I look like a chia pet with illustrated grumpy face and weird eyebrows. Gooooo me!

And the next question is - what color this time? (Not following the chia pet metaphor – green – too closely, I hope.) Mine grew back quite a different color, as well as curly (where it had been straight). Thanks (again) for your self-illustration - I'm betting the two "wings" at your temple will fill in. Hair is so capricious - PJH

it is four months since I finished chemo. My hair used to grow so fast. Now I seem to have this monk look in front. It barely comes onto my forhead. The back seems to be curly and the top and sides straight. What the heck! I will not know till there are a few inches. I have put away the wig and use it rarely. To me I think I have a "pixie" cut look. I may be looking through rose coloured glasses. Oh yea, all the grey hair now. Used to be so proud that I had so little. Maybe I will call them tiny tiny streaks.

Sandi, take heart - after 7 months, my hair was abou 1" long, and like Harpo Marx - and it was RIGHT THEN I had to get my driver's license picture taken, which here in NH we keep for like 5 years... so I had that "look" in my wallet forever! Gray? How about pewter, ecru, or "silver lining"? Wink PJH

I kept buzzing it until it all grew in at the same time. Well, with the exception of my little bald temple spots. My hair grows super fast so it works better for me to cut it consistently until its how it should be (it's about 1/4 inch now). Plus I think cutting it stimulates the hair follicles and scalp. Soon my pretties I will have a full head of hair! I think my first official hair style will be a fauxhawk. Cool!

YOU LOOK GREAT! I like your drawing of yourself and I highly recommend the hawk hair do. I have enjoyed my mohawk and wondered why I wasn't brave enough to do it before stupid cancer! I think I may wear my hair short for a while once it begins to grow back. Good thing too, seems from what your writing, it takes a while to grow in normal. I have super curly hair, so I am hoping for straight hair when it comes in again. Maybe that is what happens to people with curly hair?

I had no idea you lose your nose hair too. I wonder if that makes you sneeze more? Hoping to see you again soon, friend!

Peg.

Force Factor

I've been sick {coughing, fever, sore throat, congestion} for around 4 days and from the energy I guess of my coughing I burst a blood vessel in my eyes. How can I progress the healing in some way to heal the blood vessel?
