PJ,

Thank you for your honest account of the emotions involved in receiving a breast cancer diagnosis. But what I found truly great about your piece was the message to fight. It is an invaluable message for anyone recently diagnosed.

Robin is courageous to bare her emotions, and disease progress, so publicly.  For me, I would direct all my energy to my friends and family, and keep the world a bit more at bay. . .

PJ,

Your message to Robin Roberts is full of your usual knowledge and insight as a successful breast cancer survivor. But more so, it's overflowing with the grace and wisdom you hold and that we rely on so much. THANK YOU. Robin is indeed blessed with such sincere support.

Fine, another woman gets breast cancer and I hope she recovers.  But, why is it that every time someone of celebrity gets breast cancer we're all supposed to be inspired?  Robin Roberts has a cushy job with bosses who will pay her while she's being treated.  She can afford nannies to take of kids if she has any.  She can afford the best care possible and if she can't she has friends who can and will help her pay.  Show me a woman with kids and a job that has to let her go because she has to take too much time off for her treatments.  Show me someone who has insurance that will cover only the minimum because that's all she could afford.  Or show me a woman who has no insurance at all.  Show me a woman leading a real life and I'll be inspired a little.  Give someone an award who is truly deserving and is truly overcoming adversity.  I'm sorry that Robin Roberts has breast cancer.  I'm sure she's a fine person.  But ALL she has to overcome is the cancer and she probably will do so.  What about REAL people who have to overcome much more due to their cancer?  What about the people who don't have the time to write an "inspiring" book because they have real lives?  Furthermore, why is it we are hammered with breast cancer story after breast cancer story when colon cancer is much more prevalent and kills more men every year than breast cancer does women?  It's because the cancer is in the colon, which is obviously a less desirable location of which to discuss, and men don't wine, complain, or need to feel inspired to deal with issues or challenges with a degree of bravery.  It's also because it predominantly plagues men that it's not discussed.  Who cares about men right?  Sorry you got breast cancer.  But until you're ready to combat all cancer for ALL people.  Then do what most men would do and shut up and deal with it (especially Robin Roberts).  If I get cancer I lose pay and I have troublie paying my bills and have to figure out how to get treatment and care for my two children left with me by another "strong and beautiful" woman.  Show me someone like that overcoming cancer or don't show me at all.

Wow, Eric - sounds like you've got a lot of bottled-up anger. Glad you were able to lash out here and get rid of some of it. Stress isn't good for you. Hope you feel better now that you've told everyone your feelings about women and breast cancer.

My feeling is that anyone who gets cancer has a real challenge on their hands. But then, each of us has SOME challenge sometime in our lives. I happen to choose to write about the breast cancer challenge. And how it affects ALL women, not just celebs (as you'd notice from my 300+ additional posts). I don't write about colon cancer because I don't know about it.

I also don't consider it whining when women share feelings and connect with one another. I'm sure you guys have a different way of dealing with your issues - go for it!  But I'd say most of the women reading this site are happy with the content.

Now, go have a good day. Really.
