Hi,

My partner is taking Arimidex now, she experiences a lot of side effects, like severe fatigue and last days vaginal bleeding. We are tempted to come back to Nolvadex Tamoxiphen, but surely this is doctor's decision. I agree that we knew much better side effects of Tamoxiphen, which are much less than Arimidex, which worsens quality of life really. Are authorities worried about so many side effects complains for Arimidex? I don't see any reaction in health care, the price is 40 Euro compared to 4 euro, so a huge business is going on there.

I think since Arimidex has been shown to be more effective than tamoxifen in post-menopausal women, that's what oncologist want women to take: the drug with the best track record for preventing recurrence. I do believe they under-estimate the importance of quality of life, and the burden of tough side effects... But I truly don't believe there's anything "underhanded" going on here with the drug companies, Francisco.

Of course, your partner can always go back to tamoxifen; I'd suggest she find out the rate of recurrence for both, and if the difference is small, she might well decide the side effects of the Arimidex aren't worth it. Best of luck to both of you - PJH
