Thank you for reminding us, PJ, that the people who desert us when we get cancer are really responding to their own cancer experiences, not to us. Fortunately, more of my friends were supportive, but a few couldn't cope. I also found that a few made their way back when it became apparent that I would survive. It's easy to take it personally. It sure feels personal! But we may never know the emotions our illness triggered in our friends.
