Rallying Around Natalia

By PJ Hamel, Health Guide Monday, January 14, 2008
“Your 20's the best time of your life, oh wait you have breast cancer.”Like so many of you, I read those words and was immediately drawn into Natalia Hernandez’s story. Her SharePost appeared on this site last Tuesday, and since then there’s been an outpouring of suppor...

You have hit it on the head exactly PJ.  I too was in shock to read of Natalia's story and as I have my own daughter in her 20's started to envisage what that would be if she was diagnosed with BC.   My heart sank and tears just welled up inside and then I reaslised that Natalia's story is to remind us all  "that she (Natalia)  could be your daughter" and to never take anything for granted, no matter how old.

Thanks for your wonderful contribution and wisdom to us all PJ.

Maz.

Thanks, Maz. As mothers, we ALWAYS want to absorb any hurt that comes our children's way. Sometimes we just can't, and it's heartbreaking... thus the way so many of us have responded to Natalia and her story. - PJH

I am in my late 30's have a family history of breast cancer, am single no children, mother is a breast cancer survivor since being diagnosed back in 1988, though currently is undergoing treatment for metastisis of the breast cancer, which now a very small site has shown up in her liver, but we are CONFIDENT that we will @ some point sustain so to speak, she is a pt of MD ANDERSON & yes I totally agree it is EXCEPTIONAL MIRACULOUS hospital, one in which I put my entire trust in...I believe & this is in observing my mother which by the way I still live & home thus mom & I are very close, that with faith, hope, patience, & one's positve attitude, mountains can be moved & cancer can be fought. mother has never missed a day of work throughout her battle with cancer, not even while undergoing chemotherapy, she is the STRONGEST person I know, a heart of gold & an attitude(positive) that never gives up...she has wowed her doctors as well as evryone who comes in contact wher, unless she tells u that she has cancer you would never have a clue, i strongly know & believe cancer takes no mercy it will strike an individual @ any age & I do know if cought @ first site no matter what stage its in with todays technology as well as insights there is life with cancer and after....stories such as Natalia's, my moms, & all the others we read & hear about are all of heroes both young & old, who with all their strenght, courage & fear vow to move mountains...to survive CANCER-

I read your post and was very touched. You are very, very brave and strong. I am a young survivor as well. Not as young as you are, though. I am sending you a virtual hug across the to where you are. I think that sharing your story and doing it the way you are is very powerful. So many young women hear the ords "you're too young" and it is wrong. Awareness and education need to be in place so that young women get the attention, care and access to treatment that they require. Blessings to you and much love... let us know how we can help.
