As a breast cancer survivor with a bilateral masectomy, I had chosen silicone implants.

I ended up having several infections, discomfort and eight surgreies.  My masectomy was musch easier then implants!

I then chose diep flap surgery, using my own tisssue and fat.  What a relief!

No more foriegn objects in my body!  The surgery was long, 11 hours, and the recovery was 2 months. I had a great medical team and trusted my doctor.

For me the diep flap was the better choice.Which I realized after the fact as I was not the person to have implants!

The one suggestion I have for any woman choosing breast reconstruction is to fully look into all your options, talk to different doctors and other women

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here - we all manage to have our own personal cancer experience, don't we? I'm glad your DIEP went well - it's a tough surgery, but well worth it, in my opinion. Take care- PJH
