I can't sleep since I got dx.. so I got a bounch of books, and a soduko game. They are thos mistery novels that keep your mind busy with someone else problems and the soduko helps you with the memory.. it keeps your brain so busy that times flyes.. they are a great help to keep my mind away from the cancer and what if...
If you have perscription coverage or ask your doctor for samples, try one of the sleep aide drugs. I love Lunesta. I tried Ambian and it gave me more night sweats. Lunesta has 1, 2 and 3 mg. I fall alseep quickly and actually fall back to sleep after having to visit the bathroom and wake up rested.
PJ, After years working in the pharmaceutical business in perscription and over the counter, Benadryl, we call a dirty drug. It interfers with other drugs and in long term use, and your friend is not alone because lots of women take it, inexpensive, around the house, used it for years for bug bites to hives with kids, etc, it has shown to slow the memory process after nightly use. I know that I do not need any help to slow my memory down! FYI to your friend.
My problem is while I lye awake from 2:30am to at least 5:30am EVERY night for the last week and a half so far...I don't want ot get up becaue I don't want to wake anyone. Maybe reading a book with a book light...I'll try it tonight when I wake up. I don't get to sleep until after 12:30am and I am up at 7:30am. Can't sleep during the day either. Sleep...over-rated :)
Great suggestions, PJ. I used to just lie there, but I've recently started getting up and doing something. It really does help. When I'm lying awake because I'm obsessing about what I have to do the next day, getting up and writing a list helps get it off my mind.
I've also learned to watch my caffeine consumption. Usually when I'm lying there wide-awake, I'll remember that I had tea in the afternoon, or an extra cup of coffee. As I get older, I'm much more sensitive to caffeine.
Absolutely, Phyllis. I have ONE cup of coffee, and sip it all day (from a thermos); but after about 3 p.m., it's a no-no. Man, don't we get SENSITIVE in our "old" age?
I tend to answer lots of emails in the middle of the night - it's nice and quiet, I can think, I feel like I'm accomplishing MUCH more than lying in bed with my eyes open, and eventually it puts me to sleep. Thanks for your input here - PJH
I agree with Phyllis. When I found myself having major trouble with sleep for two nights in a row, I realized that I had way more caffeine in those two days than I should have. I have increasingly gotten sensitive to it. When I cut back on it, my sleep returned. I still like having a hot liquid to drink during the day, so I switched to decaffeinated or herbal tea in place of the coffee I used to drink. Thanks for your post, PJ. Of all your suggestions my favorite is answering emails since it won't wake up other family members during those wee hours. Jan
