Once again, it seems like just cause I have cancer, that's all I hear about.

Last night it was a TV commercial for a local hospital, today it's an advertisement on AOL.  Now I know that new studies come out all the time, and for every study that proves one thing, there'...

    Hi Angi,

Thanks for sharing this article with us. You're right -- there is so much stuff in the media to sift through, and sadly -- to ignore. It's hard to know what to read, what to believe, what to change in or apply to your life, that's for sure.

Seeing you're so keen to consumer health information in the media, I'll share this great organization with you:

    HealthNewsReview.org

    http://www.healthnewsreview.org/

Here you'll see that most health news stories aren't all they should be -- not even close -- and that the top media outlets, where we get most of our information from, aren't doing a very good job of giving us all the facts, and when they do give us facts, they aren't reporting them completely or correctly.

Keep writing -- your posts are great.

    Maria

yeah I don't beleive all that I read or hear (otherwise I would go batty!) but ever notice how when you have cancer THAT IS ALL YOU HEAR ABOUT.  You get sick of it -one report comes out and there's stuff to back it, then later the same day you get reports pointing the finger elsewhere.

I've begun to think that no matter what, cancer is everywhere.  What we eat, how we drink (or what), and the enviroment we live in.  I accept this theory more simply because 40 years ago when people were dying, medicine wasn't nearly as advanced - so it coulda been cancer because they didn't know how to treat it as they do now.  Thank goodness for advances in medicine, so we can live longer, and fight cancer, and be with our family.

CANCER IS NOT A DEATH SENTENCE!  I find it important to teach my husband that since he lost his GF & F to cancer.  He's scared he'll lose me too, but I'll be damned if that's going to happen.  I'm not leaving this earth till I get to see and know my grandbabies! (I'm only 34 and my DD is only 8 - and she cannot have a kid till at least 25!)

Cancer may be an emotional ride, and you have good days and bad - but I find once you get a grip & learn to cope  you can handle whatever cancer throws at ya!

Thank you for the great website to sort of put all the news stories into perspective. I work in the medical industry and these types of stories can truly get blown out of proportion due to fear factor and grabbing that female audience. I am a virgo and thus like to gather information and go to the credible sites to confirm or deny information. Usually you can find that summary in the beginning or the end of "a real live study" that has been peer-reviewed in a legitimate medical journal.

angi...I am with you...now that I have been diagnosed---cancer is all I see everywhere. Maybe it's been there all along and I just filtered it out. NOW, IT IS ME! NOW it has context. NOW my whole view of life has and is changing. We hear everything about cancer because...to some degree, we are afraid and looking for understanding so we can "do something" or "change something" to make it all better.

I agree with you, everything is cancer to me now...everywhere...I know that I just want so badly to just feel "my old normal" just for a day!

Thanks for your post...I understand the cancer overload these days...makes me want to buy a farm and grow organic vegetables and live like my grand and great grandparents.
