Aromatase Inhibitors Dilemma

By Esther Kowalski Tuesday, June 19, 2007
I stopped the Arimidex sometime last month.  After my visit with the oncologist, I left with a new RX for Femara.  I filled the RX, however it still sits on my shelf.Although my life will probably never be the same since Chemo, I sat on the beach on day recently feeling happy and serene and hopeful.  My mind was no longer in a fog and I wasn't depressed or bursting into tears or in great joint and muscle pain.

I fully intended on giving the Femara a chance but am having a difficult time facing the distinct possibility that it may put me back in the side effects hell I was in with Arimidex.

Another interesting thing is that since stopping the Arimidex my cholesterol has gone down to nearly normal and my blood values are all in line.
When do I get my brain back???

Esther, I think you're doing the right thing. Take a break, let your body heal itself for awhile. Then try the Femara. Maybe it'll affect you totally differently - they're actually different drugs, so who knows.

I've been on Arimidex nearly 2 years, and just recently have started having the bad joint pain. I'm going to stick with it as long as I can, but too bad! Wish it were a gentler preventive... - PJH
