When do I get my brain back???

By Esther Kowalski Tuesday, June 26, 2007

I got up this a.m. and felt fairly energetic so I busied myself with some things that I had put off doing.  All was going well until the phone rang.  My massage therapist wondered why I hadn't shown up for our 11:00 a.m. appointment time.  First of all my massage therapy is very important for me and for me to forget the day and time was hard for me to accept.  I looked in my daily planner and there it was 6/26 at 11:00 a.m.  For some reason I had been thinking it was on a Wed. instead of Tues.

This has become quite common especially when I was going through chemo and then the Arimidex.  I know it  has to be at least six weeks since stopping the Arimidex and yet I still have a lot of aches, etc.  My final chemo was 9/7/06.

For those of you who have gone through this, do you still have the memory problems, etc., or am I just the crazy one?

Hi Esther, have you seen the flip-flopping studies that say that chemo brain is for real... and isn't? If you check out the news section on this site from the past few days, you'll find a few interesting studies. I know that Beth Brophy has written a few SharePosts about chemo brain, and PJ Hamel discusses how long it took her to get back to her normal self. If you can't find them, let me know, and I'll email them to you. Good luck, Sarah

Many women compain about chemo brain. I feel like my concentration was permanently impaired by my treatment, but also, I'm getting older, too. It's hard to know what's chemo-brain, menopause, aging, etc. Good luck with it.

Best, Beth Brophy
