Almost word for word, this is my story, too....right down to the Barefoot Contessa and the Food Channel! HA ! (small confession....I'm still hooked on the food channel Barefoot Contessa, Good Eats and Iron Chef...much to my husband's disgust...although he is benefiting from it at the dinner table...well most of the time!) I love reading your stories...as I go down this road, I never want to forget where I've been. Both you and PJ are so eloquent and you bring my own thoughts and memories to life...thank you!!

Monday, January 21, 2008 at 08:44 PMHey Sandy,
Thanks for your incredibly nice email. I feel the same way when I read P.J.'s posts, too. And isn't it funny how the Food Channel really is this THING during recovery? I remember the first time I heard about this phenomenon was when I interviewed a groom-to-be for a wedding piece I was writing for the New York Times. He was in his mid-fifties and a cancer survivor, and he told me he was a really amazing cook because when he was going through chemo he spent months watching the food channel. He said there was this whole almost subculture of people going through cancer treatment he knew that were also addicted to the food network. Must have something to do with the obvious message of the programs: nourishment, health, nurture. Stay in touch and thanks for writing-- lz
