Triple Negative Breast Cancer: Making Sense of Estrogen, Progesterone and HER2 Receptor Status

By Kevin Knopf, MD, Health Guide Friday, April 04, 2008
Most oncologists now are thinking of breast cancer as at least four diseases based on endocrine features - luminal A, luminal B, Her2 positive and the so called "triple negative" - breast cancers that express neither estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors nor Her2 receptors. These latter breast ...

Opinion

HW746-07:Metastatic Carcinoma (Left Axillary Lymph Nodes)

HW747-07: Residual Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma (Left Breast)

Lymphnodes-7/7 involved.

I've had 8 infusions of chemotherapy,4 of AC and 4 of Taxol. After a four weeks break I'll be starting on radiotherapy of the chest wall and remaining axillary lymphnodes.

My doctor doesn't make any commitment about the chances of my recovery, although the board's reviewal places my tumour as being at Grade I and says my cancer isn't metastatic.Actually I had the lumpectomy and mastectomy as well as histapathology of both lump and breast done in a different city before coming over to this hospital of international repute.Doctor,I know you don't deal with individual cases here, but I'd be greatly obliged if after looking at the above results you could give me an idea of what my chances of recovery are.

Thank you ever so much.

You know I really wish I could give you a prognosis, but I think it's not permitted by

the sponsor due to legal issue.  I do think, though, that your oncologist should give you a good estimate if you ask him/her - and of course I hope you are going to be cured.

Hi

So far I'm doing fine. I continue to be tired, though. But that could be because of having diabetese as well. I'm 65 years old. Tamoxifen hasn't added to my weight. As a matter of fact I'm slimmer than when I was undergoing treatment. Don't know whether that's a good or a bad sign.Don't worry.Medicines are so much more advanced now. You'll be fine. My prayers are with you.Ps stay in touch.

As a triple negative patient who so far has not responded to Taxotere and is now on AC, I'm wondering what the purpose of your slight comment might be? Is there anything new in it? Do you get recognition or money or a promotion for posting something, no matter how slight and insignificant? I guess my question is: why even bother to post something so fluffy?

I certainly hope this posting goes where I intend it! I was just "cruising" through this site and noticed how recently comments were made. TBNC is really scarry- TNBC with IBC is scarry and that's what I dealt with in May of 2009. So I went through the right mastectomy. the A/C the Taxol- the "port" the Neulasta the mouth sores, the rads- the burns and yesterday I had my 3rd "out of treatment" oncology visit. Tumor markers were 44-not too bad. I have about 2 inches of hair growth and I am alot fatter than I used to be, with very on me little remaining as it was before all of this-Ya it gets better-really slowly....and I feel like an ingrate with complaints. I have crappy insurance and the local hospital has given me stirling care and for this I sincerely thank them.

Just believe that, while going through this unwanted journey, that everyone who has assisted you medically has done the very best that their knowledge allows. And don't read web sites other than those which are credible.

I am too long winded-sorry!!
