About Me

I am a 46 year old single mother with 2 teenage children. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2005 and had a lumpectomy with radiation. My cancer was found on an MRI after a mammogram indicated some concern and an Ultrasound was ordered and my doctor suggested an MRI which the insurance company initially did NOT want to pay for. I was recently diagnosed again with breast cancer. Same breast. I am now about to go through bilateral mastectomies with reconstruction on 9-3-08. 11-22-08: UPDATE: I have completed 3 out of 4 Rounds of my Chemo. I lost my hair and really don't mind it all that much. I feel really fine after the chemo treatments, just a little tired and "loopy" a couple of days later. Gained some weight from the steriods, I guess, but I'll worry about that when I complete my last chemo on December 10, 2008. My reconstruction is going "ok". My right breast is misbehaving because it was radiated the first time I was diagnosed in 2005. The vessels aren't circulating the blood like they should, so my plastic surgeon may have to do a "flap" of some kind in the next couple of months. I am in no hurry to finish my reconstruction at this time because I want it to be as "perfect" as it can possibly be. I realize that my breasts will never be the same again, but I'm ok with that, as long as I'm alive.
