Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Halfway Through!

Hi Everybody,

Just a quick update...just had chemo #4 yesterday...that is the last round of adrimyacin and cytoxin!  In 3 weeks I start my 12 round of tamoxofin.  I'll start the 52 weeks of herceptin then, too.  So, the way I see it, I am halfway through the chemo...major milestone!!!  In 15 weeks, my hair will start to grow back.  In 15 weeks, I'll start getting some energy back.  In 15 weeks, I won't be so nauseated.  In 15 weeks, in 15 weeks, in 15 weeks!!!!!!  By next Christmas, I'll be looking at reconstructive surgery and deciding what to do about that...remember that old saying "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth"?  Well, I might be saying "All I want for Christmas is two bigger boobs!"  (Remember, I was a barely A cup!).

It's Christmas and that always is a wonderful time of year for me...so I am in a great mood!  Not to say that I don't have my downtimes...but not today!!  That is how I get through things most of the time...day by day...and today is a very good day...halfway through and looking forward to that day 15 weeks from now that I can write and say "I'm done with chemo!"

Take care!

Koponen,

You are nothing short of incredible! Your outlook and attitude can't be beat - EVERYONE in our community can learn from you - Thank you!

Great to hear chemo is going well for you. I have no doubt you'll be "shopping" for beautiful breasts this time next year!

Keep that 15-weeks' end in sight. Write again soon.

Best to you,

Maria

Wow, Kopenen, I still remember your first post here! And now you're halfway through chemo. Way to go!

What really gave me strength when I was going through my chemo was the fact that time marches on and the promise that "this too shall pass."

Chemo ends. Hair grows back. Herceptin takes a year but even that ends eventually. While it never goes back to before, a new normal replaces the old and the change is not necessarily for the worse.

The holidays mark the changes. Around Christmas last year, I had my last chemo. I had no hair and wore a Santa hat. You'll have a merry christmas too.

High five to a woman half-way through.  During the down times just remember that if you got through the first half, you can for darned sure get through the second half.

Good luck,

Great attitude - one day at a time, baby, one day at a time. You've got that down pat. Just think, a year from now you'll be deciding what kind of CLEAVAGE to have! Ain't modern medicine swell?! In the meantime - I've heard the adriamycin and cytoxan are the worst, and the taxol (is that what you're getting next, rather than tamoxifen?) is much 'easier" in comparison - hope that proves true for you. And the Herceptin, I've heard, is a piece of cake. I hope that ALL comes true for you, and that next year at this time we're all advising you on what kind of reconstruction to have. Happy holidays- enjoy each day to the max! - PJH
