Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

What do you think of my new wig?

By Mika Friday, September 12, 2008

Hello ladies! If you read my last post you know that I started a non-profit organization that provides free wigs to women with cancer and alopecia. Well I don't just give them away I also can make a wig myself. The picture below is my latest creation. Its Brazilian hair and naturally this color. I just put it on but haven't styled it yet. I wear wigs all the time. Literally I only take them off to wash my hair and my wig. Wigs became my favorite thing to wear since I started thinning in the front. It was because of my anemia. My hair has grown back since then but I still wear wigs. Honestly, I like them better than my real hair. My husband does too. :)

I'm new to this. I would like to share something with you. I work really hard everyday trying to get grants and corporate sponsors to fund Pretty in Pink (Pink Barrette's free wig program.) Its a lot of hard work and very expensive but I know its for a good cause. I know that I can't personally find a cure but I can help more women feel more comfortable while going through it.  I feel like if I can take your mind off of just that ONE issue of hair loss then I've done my job. I give away free wigs as much as I can but I can't do this alone.

I found something new out today. The more people know about this program the more funding its likely to receive. Its weird but its true. So, if you want to help you can help by getting the word out about Pink Barrette and its free wig program.

My new wig! What do you think?

Today I cried...

Thank you so much for your kind comment.

You're right, my wigs look so real. People tell me all day, everyday, my hair is so beautiful. Everyone thinks its my real hair. I usually tell everyone its a wig and no one believes me. Women even ask if they can touch the hair! Its so funny.

I want everyone to know that wearing a wig can be a great thing. Its actually an upgrade for some women including me. However, I'll warn you, with a PB wig you'll get plenty of stares and compliments. So, be prepared for extra attention!

And a pink wig is a great idea! Tarina Tarantino, Hello Kitty designer, wears pink hair. I can make a wig anyway you'd like. If pink will boost your mood, then I'm here to help!

Wigs are fantastic fashion accessories to have, particularly if they are made of high quality material/hair. They provide instant style and versatility for those that wish to either experiement or have some sort of hair/medical disorder.

Wigs should be promoted in a better light because at some point wigs are needed by all!
